St John's

On Monday the 2nd April 2017 Totara class had a ambulance day. First we made cookies. We put in 350g of butter. Next we put in icing sugar and corn flower. Then we put plain flour in. After that we mixed the dough. Then we had to make heart shapes from the dough. Lastly we put the dough in the oven and then we waited for 30 minutes then we came back to class with the cookies. Then we packed the cookies in a plastic box and sent them to ST John. Then we made paper hearts and we put our own designs. We were only allowed to use green and yellow because we got to choose what colour we used so we all chose green and yellow.

On Monday we were researching things about mouse traps.we had to draw a mouse trap and make instructions how to make our mouse trap design.some people needed to use wood,bottles,hinge's and other things.then watched a little clip. They uses a bottle,a bottle lid and a coat hanger it was a easy trap to make.Also we got a postcard that we had to fill in and little postcards that we could colour in and write a sentence on. We had to write a descriptive sentence about the playground and the traffic on the highway.This is a mouse trap that we drew .

Totora class blog Term 1 Week 4

  Last week Maramarua school had there swimming sports for 2017.there was width races,length races,noodle races,a house group boat race and a staff and parents vs students race.we were taught by a man called Fred.soon we'll have our East group swimming sports on Friday. Tomorrow we will have ASB get wise in our class.we will know about saving money and ways to save it.I don't know when but soon our class will have a goldfish called Totara or Mr.T to look after.All we have to wait for is our teacher to fix the fish tank and all us students have to do is feed mr.T.                                                    Today we were visited by ASB get wise program.we were tort by P.T (personal  teacher)about saving money.we played THE MONEY GAMES with P.T,learned that a fancy box of rice is the same as a normal,boring old rice and that,if you hate climbing up ladders all the time,you shudd not buy a 3 mouth lightbulb  and buy a 1yr or 2yr lightbulb.Today our class will have a teacher called Mrs Chistafar who teaches us about Whio/Blue duck (the duck on the $10 note). We will make posters of facts,the lifecycle and a picture.On Friday we will be having our East Group swimming sports.my brother will be in it.it will be length races.m

Writing with Freedom

Today we did some writing about ourself flying through the air.We had to feel what it was like living in freedom. We had to  create a picture in our mind about ourselves flying.

This is what some of my writing.We started by using a good sentence then we carried on using descriptive language.We wrote some good stories and we are proud of what we done!

 

Maths on Friday

Today we were adding numbers that add to 20, 50 and 100. These are called Compatible Numbers...we used a bead string to help us but we didn't need it all the time.

Our classes shields about what makes us special and unique

Today we looked at some old class photos and talked about what was the same and what was different with the children in the photo. We found out that whatever the size, colour of our skin or whatever, we are all the same in some way and that is that we all deserve to be treated nicely and the same. We focused on what makes us special...We have been taking about we are all equal and we will like to show you some of what we did hope you like it.

Our class have been learning about fair testing and also learning to research effectively by asking good questions. Bubbles is the context within which we have done the research and questioning.
